Kids make matzah at Whole Foods

by Staff Report | March 28, 2012

Children participated in a hands-on pre-Passover experience on Sunday, March 18, at Whole Foods in Northbrook, where Northbrook's Lubavtich Chabad hosted a Model Matzah Factory.

Attendees re-enacted the process of manufacturing matzah, from grinding the flour and kneading the dough to baking in a stone oven, all within 18 minutes, the time limit in which matzah must be made.

Because Passover matzah needs to be manufactured in a highly controlled environment to make sure it does not become leavened, the children could not use the matzah that they made for the holiday, although samples of Passover-appropriate Matzah were available.
